He Ao Hou is a collaboration of traditional Hawaiian culture and
contemporary art mediums. The combination of traditional and modern
practices is a deliberate theme which was inspired by the
socio-cultural issues that Hawaiians face to this day, many of which
revolve around this idea of “old vs. new”, e.g. conservation vs.
development, sovereignty vs. heteronomy. Through this game, we hoped
to show that we Hawaiians can adapt to our ever changing environment
while preserving our traditions and maintaining our values.
