As a queer Vietnamese American, I often have a hard time finding the
time for both my queerness and my cultural heritage. Maybe that's
partially my fault, but, regardless, the space needed for my
identities is vital. "Dragons" served as an outlet for me to explore
my intersecting identities and vent about them. The nonlinear
narrative format was comforting in that I wasn't confined to one
ending, one outcome--I wasn't forced to be one thing; rather, I gave
myself the room to explore, to expand on my thoughts and feelings, and
to see where my writing would take me.
