She is my solace, my friend, my protector but she hesistates when I
tell her "I love you".
From a lack of a simple “I love you” to minimal physical
contact, most Asian families do not regularly show their affection
outwardly. Growing up, I know that myself and many of my friends, when
we compared our family life to that of our white friends, we would
sometimes wonder if our parents even loved us at all; it took many
years and many conversations with my mom to realize that familial love
is simply shown in other, more indirect ways, such as through her care
and concern on little topics in my life or financial support on all my
endeavors. This audio piece is an experimental podcast that reflects
on my memories with my mom, containing moments in time captured on a
whim from mundane conversations to discussions with my brother. Take a
deep dive into my memory archive and maybe, just maybe it'll spark
memories of your own.
